- Security Concerns: Exposing local servers to the internet (e.g., via ngrok) felt unsafe without proper authentication.
- Development Friction: Creating a new MCP server required setting up a new project, boilerplate, etc. I wanted a "script-like" experience but with full TypeScript support.
Local MCP Gateway addresses these issues by acting as a central hub for all your MCP needs.
Instead of configuring each MCP server individually in every AI client (Claude Desktop, Cursor, etc.), you configure them once in Local MCP Gateway. The gateway exposes a single endpoint (or profile-specific endpoints) that aggregates all tools.
The built-in Debug Logs feature captures every JSON-RPC message. You can see exactly what the LLM sent, what the tool returned, and any errors that occurred. This is invaluable for prompt engineering and debugging tool logic.
The gateway supports API Keys and OAuth 2.1 for authenticating with specific MCP servers. Important: The gateway application itself is currently designed for localhost usage and is not protected against unauthorized access. Do not expose it to the public internet. Enhanced application-level security is planned for future releases.
The Custom MCP feature allows you to create new MCP servers directly within the gateway. It handles the build process, hot-reloading, and registration. You just write the tool logic.

We believe in Local First. Your data and your tools should remain under your control. While the gateway can be deployed to the cloud, it is designed to run perfectly on your local machine.
As industry forecasts suggest 75% of enterprise software will incorporate agentic capabilities by 2026, the direct model-to-tool connection is becoming obsolete. It creates a "N×M" fragmentation problem: N clients (Cursor, Claude, IDEs) connecting to M tools (GitHub, Postgres, Slack), resulting in a combinatorial explosion of fragility.
I didn't need more tools. I needed a Middleware Layer. I built Local MCP Gateway to be the "Control Plane" of this new Agentic Mesh.

Most MCP tools are generic. An "Instagram Tool" just says "I can get posts." In my workflow, I need it for competitor analysis.
The Solution: Semantic Calibration. With the Gateway, the system generates optimized TOON prompts based on the active profile. It tells the AI: "You have a toolset specifically designed for Competitor Analysis." This turns a generic "SQL Tool" into a specific "User Database Query Tool" for my support workflow, effectively preventing the AI from getting confused.
I built this because the future of AI isn't just about smarter models—it's about smarter orchestration. We are the conductors. The AI agents are the musicians. But without a sheet of music (Profiles) and a podium (The Gateway), it's just noise.
Local MCP Gateway is that podium. It differs from enterprise gateways by being Local and Privacy-First. No cloud dependency, no API keys to a SaaS provider. It is the missing piece of the AI infrastructure stack—a "Nexus" where your context is curated, secured, and optimized.
