simplyswords mod doesn't work

simplyswords (and other simply* mods) fail to initialize due to r/o filesystem and i cant figure out what's wrong. I only have mods linked using symlinks (and whitelist/properties conf'd declaratively), everything else is copied from the server pack using files.

I think you have symlinked the whole "mods" directory (as in the examples) and they need to write there.
If you replace symlinks with files in your config, does it fix?

yea thats what I've done

but that seems kinda hacky to me tbh

That's what I did too. I think that, without the first line, you can symlink specific mods by appending the path before (e.g. mods/example-mod). I think that's the solution you (and me too haha) want, since you want to symlink mods without symlinking the whole "mods` folder, since some plugins would like to write there

If they try to write to the mods folder, then there isn't much we can do besides copying the mods directory or symlinking individual mods. (Short of mounting an overlayfs or something which I am not going to figure out).

As far as I am concerned, mods that try to modify mods/ are badly behaved and need to be fixed upstream. Nobody but the server maintainer should modify that folder.
