Parallels based Gitpod Desktop/GitHub Codespaces/Dev Containers alternative

It would be helpful to have a tool for creating automated ephemeral development environments similar to Gitpod Desktop/GitHub Codespaces/Dev Containers but with support for full graphical desktops and macOS/Windows guests. It would be helpful to be able to paste a GitHub link to an open source project and have the project automatically built and run in a new VM with all of the dependencies automatically installed.

@matthewruzzi Not sure if this is in the scope of the extension as that seems a rather complex system. for example when you say "paste a GitHub link" how would we gather the requirements? On the other tools you have specialized files to achieve some of the automation, it is not just a paste and go solution.

Could you please explain better the vision and how does it fit in the VSCode extension scope?
