Hi everyone 👋 Building on the research and XR development activities of the Immersive Digital Twin Lab, I think this space is ideal for collectively exploring how our XR and digital twin work can translate into real-world impact, sustainable funding, and long-term value—both within Finland and at the EU level. A few thoughts to help frame the conversation: 💡 From Research to Impact How can our immersive XR prototypes, demos, and digital twin platforms evolve into deployable services or products for water management, environmental monitoring, decision support, or education? Are there clear candidates for technology transfer, spin-offs, licensing, or co-development with industry and public-sector partners? 🇫🇮 Finnish & Nordic Funding Pathways Programs like Business Finland (Research to Business, Co-Innovation, Co-Research) seem well aligned with XR-enabled digital twins, especially when framed around applied impact and pilot deployments. How can we best position DIWA-related XR work for commercial readiness, testbeds, and demonstrators? 🇪🇺 EU-Level Opportunities Horizon Europe (Clusters 4, 5, 6), EIC Pathfinder / Transition, MSCA, Interreg, and Nordic calls all appear highly relevant for:
What kinds of consortia, narratives, or use cases would make XR-based digital twins especially competitive in these calls? 💰 Sustainability & Business Models Possible models worth discussing:
What does a sustainable operational model for the lab and its infrastructure look like beyond project-based funding? 📣 Visibility & Stakeholder Engagement XR demo days, conference showcases, and immersive presentations (VR/WebXR) could significantly boost visibility, adoption, and funding readiness. How can we better align XR outputs with stakeholder needs, market demand, and societal value? These are just starting points 😊
Looking forward to an open exchange of ideas and experiences! |

This discussion focuses on exploring opportunities to translate our immersive XR research into commercial and societal impact, and to secure funding from Finnish institutions, EU programs, and international initiatives. Stakeholder input, ideas, and suggestions are encouraged to help us identify viable funding paths and partnerships while ensuring alignment with DIWA’s mission.
Key Focus Areas
1. Identifying Funding Opportunities
2. Technology Transfer & Commercialization
3. Revenue & Sustainability Models
4. Stakeholder Engagement & Visibility
💡 Goal:
To align XR research, commercialization, and funding efforts with DIWA’s mission, ensuring that immersive digital twin platforms are not only scientifically innovative but also sustainable, impactful, and fundable.
