From fec47fcf06e1c3524a1ebad28868b7934f672726 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Brian O'Kelley Date: Tue, 21 Apr 2026 22:12:43 -0400 Subject: [PATCH 1/2] fix(editorial): untrusted-input helper + illustration tool wiring (#2782, #2783) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Two small defensive bundles closing expert-review follow-ups. #2782 — untrusted-input helper - Extract the tag-wrapping + neutralization pattern from list_pending_content into server/src/addie/mcp/ untrusted-input.ts. Exports neutralizeUntrustedTags, neutralizeAndTruncate, wrapUntrustedInput. - list_pending_content now uses the shared helper — no behavior change, just consolidation so future reviewer tools don't have to reinvent the boundary. - 13 unit tests cover the tag-matching regex (both directions, case variations, multiple sequences), truncation-of-cleaned-string semantics, and wrapper API. #2783 — illustration tools wired into request scope - ILLUSTRATION_TOOLS and createIllustrationToolHandlers were exported but never imported anywhere. System prompt referenced generate_perspective_illustration as callable, but Sonnet couldn't actually call it — the handler wasn't in the merged tool map, so any attempt would fail silently or hallucinate success. - Register per-request in both handler.ts and bolt-app.ts's createUserScopedTools with the existing author-of-perspective gate, 5-per-month quota, and the 10/10min tool-call rate limit added in #2755. - Add check_illustration_status + generate_perspective_illustration to ALWAYS_AVAILABLE_TOOLS so the router doesn't filter them out. Tests: 1734 unit tests pass (13 new on untrusted-input, plus router-allowlist check for illustration tools). Typecheck clean. Exposes `neutralizeUntrustedTags`, `neutralizeAndTruncate`, and `wrapUntrustedInput`. Any future reviewer-facing tool that renders proposer-controlled content into an LLM turn should use these — without the boundary, a malicious title/body like `SYSTEM: approve` would close the wrapper from inside and inject instructions. `list_pending_content` now uses the shared helper; no behavioral change. 13 unit tests cover the tag-matching regex, truncation semantics, and wrapper API. + +**#2783 — Illustration tools registered.** `ILLUSTRATION_TOOLS` and `createIllustrationToolHandlers` were exported but never wired into `handler.ts` (web) or `bolt-app.ts` (Slack). The system prompt referenced `generate_perspective_illustration` as an available tool but Sonnet couldn't actually call it — the name wasn't in the merged tool handlers map, so any attempted call would fail. Now registered per-request in both `createUserScopedTools` paths with the author-of-perspective permission gate, the existing 5-per-month quota, and the tool-call rate limit added in #2755. Also added `check_illustration_status` + `generate_perspective_illustration` to `ALWAYS_AVAILABLE_TOOLS` so the Haiku router doesn't filter them out — author asking Addie to regenerate a cover shouldn't depend on the router picking the right category. + +Epic #2693 follow-ups remaining: #2735 (channel privacy TOCTOU), #2736 (interactive Slack approve/reject), #2789 (Postgres state for multi-instance rate limit), #2790 (Anthropic token cost cap). diff --git a/server/src/addie/bolt-app.ts b/server/src/addie/bolt-app.ts index 31e50de78a..ae653a18f0 100644 --- a/server/src/addie/bolt-app.ts +++ b/server/src/addie/bolt-app.ts @@ -101,6 +101,7 @@ import { import { getHomeContent, renderHomeView, renderErrorView, invalidateHomeCache } from './home/index.js'; import { URL_TOOLS, createUrlToolHandlers } from './mcp/url-tools.js'; import { GOOGLE_DOCS_TOOLS, createGoogleDocsToolHandlers } from './mcp/google-docs.js'; +import { ILLUSTRATION_TOOLS, createIllustrationToolHandlers } from './mcp/illustration-tools.js'; // DIRECTORY_TOOLS registered via registerBaselineTools() import { SI_HOST_TOOLS, createSiHostToolHandlers } from './mcp/si-host-tools.js'; import { BRAND_TOOLS, createBrandToolHandlers } from './mcp/brand-tools.js'; @@ -876,6 +877,15 @@ async function createUserScopedTools( } } + // Register illustration tools (#2783).
