Documentation Fixes Applied

Date: January 9, 2026

Summary

Updated Handbook.md troubleshooting section to reflect fixes implemented in v2.0. Most critical documentation issues were already resolved in the January 2026 update.

Changes Made Today

1. Updated LUKS Troubleshooting (Section 9.1.2)

File: Handbook.md Section: 9.1.2 LUKS-Specific Issues

Issue: Troubleshooting section described LUKS boot problems as current issues, but these were documented as fixed in v2.0 changelog:

  • "GRUB installed before initramfs configured" → Fixed in v2.0
  • "Hardcoded /dev/sda3 partition reference" → Fixed in v2.0 with dynamic detection

Solution: Updated section to:

  • Clearly mark these as "Legacy Causes (Fixed in v2.0)"
  • Add "Note" explaining v2.0 improvements
  • Keep troubleshooting commands for edge cases
  • Add section on LUKS device detection enhancements

Impact: Users will understand these are resolved issues, not current problems.

Status: Previously Resolved in v2.0 (January 2026)

✅ Filesystem Architecture

  • Section 4.1 now correctly describes "Current Implementation: 4-Partition Overlayfs Layout"
  • Section 4.4 clearly marks BTRFS-native as "Planned for 2026-2027"
  • All contradictory information about "DEPRECATED" removed

✅ Package Management

  • Section 6.1 explicitly states: "The installer does not use Foxmerge"
  • Section 6.2 documents Foxmerge as "Not Implemented"
  • Clear reasoning provided for direct download model

✅ LUKS Boot Improvements

  • Comprehensive documentation in INSTALLATION_ARCHITECTURE.md Section 3.1
  • Dynamic partition detection documented
  • UUID extraction and boot configuration explained
  • Initramfs configuration detailed

✅ Version Information

  • Handbook updated to Version 2.0
  • Detailed changelog added (Section 10)
  • All changes since v1.0 documented

✅ Installation Flow

  • Section 3.3 accurately describes 10-step installation process
  • Each step matches actual installer behavior
  • Installation process clearly documented

Remaining Minor Items

Low Priority

  • No remaining critical documentation issues identified
  • Handbook.md and INSTALLATION_ARCHITECTURE.md are aligned
  • All installation commands verified to work with current installer version

Recommendations

  1. Keep Handbook.md as primary user documentation - It's current and comprehensive
  2. Use INSTALLATION_ARCHITECTURE.md for technical details - Excellent deep-dive documentation
  3. Consider deprecating HANDBOOK_ISSUES.md - All critical issues resolved
  4. Update version numbers in README.md - Ensure consistency across all docs

Validation

  • Handbook.md Section 9.1.2 updated to reflect v2.0 fixes
  • No "cosmic-desktop flavour not available" issues found (already resolved)
  • All LUKS troubleshooting updated to mark legacy issues as fixed
  • Version information consistent (v2.0)
  • Architecture documentation aligned with implementation
