Encoder controls customization?

I'm thinking about adding a way to customize your controls directly on the device and currently floating around two ideas, a Listening Mode toggle that would switch the controls between the defaults and an alternate scheme, and individual settings for each action. All screenshots are mock-ups.

• "Listening mode" (open to suggestions of actual name and controls)

  • Left/right: Change volume
  • Click: enter Seek Mode
  • Short press: Menu

This is how my device currently operates on FM (hard-coded in the .ino) and would also be useful in AM with the addition of EiBi schedules.

• Implementing individual customizations in the Settings menu:

  

  • Menu Shortcut: displayed separately; mandatory choice between click and short press so you don't accidentally lock yourself out of it:
    
  • Left/Right
  • Click
  • Short Press

  These three would let you choose between manual frequency adjustment/volume/seek/etc., with one of the latter two being disabled depending on the Menu Shortcut option:

  

What does everyone think? Is this worth pursuing and adding to the firmware? Any suggestions?

Customizations like this are better done in custom firmware versions (code is infinitely more flexible). Otherwise they just add more complexity to the UI, code, documentation, clutter the settings menu that is already too long, etc.

@radu-gs This was the function I was looking for for the firmware... could you make it available for download or give me some tips on how you made the modification? I don’t have much experience with codes but I really wanted this function on my radio, if you can help me, I will be immensely grateful!
