I m trying the code on both FireFox and IE. Works on Firefox but on IE the height of the textarea is wrong. I still try if I find something in the code and tell you if I find the reason for this behavior. ...

Try to perform $( #textarea ).css({padding: 20px }).autoResize(); and you ll be surprised... (Autogrow doesn t consider the padding are in the autogrow calculation)

How to get the textarea to 1 row? Ideally it would be nice to have the option if it were one row and when active, a little extra space would appear so the user knows they have the extra space to keep typing ...
