Is it possible to add a custom footprint on the frame?

Hi. First, thanks for the great tool.

Question:
Is is possible to add a custom footprint on the frame in a similar way the fiducials are added?
Current kikit interface allows only round fiducials with copper and opening radius as parameters.
There are people who use rectangular fiducials on the frame/rails, which helps with stencil positioning.

As a more generic solution, it would be great to have a parameter where a footprint name could be specified and it will be added as a fiducial instead the circles.
Or just add a fiducial shape parameter with circle as a default, allowing also a square one to be added.

I assume it will be possible to add the fiducial parameters to the CLI or JSON twice...

Yes, write a framing plugin. This covers any use case.

Could you explain more about square fiducials? Maybe we can make the fiducials configurable.

Square fiducial, which should be open on the stencil as well, will show the missalignment better than a circle.
With circle, you will barely see the tip of the arc if there is a 0.1mm mismatch, with square it will be a full width of the fiducial. Will be easier to see it by naked eye.

Could you please point me to a script example?
The documentation mentions script: docs/resources/examplePost.py for adding a hole in the middle of the frame rail, but I can't find that file on my PC.

Found the file. It was in the repository of cause.
I browsed Python APIs, but looks like there is no option to add a copper rectangle to the panel :(
Next option will be to deep dive into the fiducials creation code...

Jan, will appreciate your help starting with plugins. Something doesn't work for me.
I copied the plugin.py to my local directory.
In JSON configuration I have this section:
"fiducials": {
"type": "plugin",
"code": "plugin.py.FiducialsPlugin"
}

But kikit throws this error:
An error occurred: Error in section fiducials: Invalid plugin type specified, FiducialsPlugin expected

I followed the plugins explanation page.
Was expecting to see the "Fiducials plugin has to provide buildFiducials" exception from the default plugins.py file, but something fails before that.

"FiducialsPlugin" class is in that file...
