Summary

  • cap YouTube URL input length before URL parsing at the desktop bridge and the analysis engine
  • share the same max URL length with the rendered YouTube input so UI and import-path validation stay aligned
  • add regression coverage for oversized but otherwise valid YouTube URLs, exact max-length boundary behavior, and the rendered input cap
  • record the URL length-limit lesson in sentinel notes

Scope note: this PR touches 7 files: .jules/sentinel.md, desktop UI/test/bridge files (apps/desktop/src/App.tsx, App.test.tsx, lib/analysis.ts, lib/analysis.test.ts), and the analysis-engine YouTube validator/test (services/analysis-engine/src/bandscope_analysis/youtube.py, tests/test_youtube.py).

Rust hunk deferral: the Tauri backend (apps/desktop/src-tauri/src/main.rs) duplicate cap was dropped from this PR so the diff (develop...HEAD) touches no .rs files. The org review contract's coverage-evidence job runs a Rust gate whenever the diff touches Cargo/*.rs, and that gate cannot currently pass in this repo (it requires a root Cargo.toml, and adding a root workspace would then demand unattainable 100% Rust line coverage) — the same blocker as #527. The Rust-side cap is deferred to a follow-up once the contract can evaluate Rust changes. Defense-in-depth is preserved at the two remaining trust boundaries: the TypeScript frontend (apps/desktop/src/lib/analysis.ts, before invoking the backend) and the Python engine (services/analysis-engine/src/bandscope_analysis/youtube.py).

Supersedes #410, #498, and #522 with a clean patch that avoids unrelated workflow/test churn and addresses the review feedback that UI-only maxLength is insufficient.

Caps YouTube URL input length across desktop UI, desktop bridge (Tauri), and the analysis engine to avoid expensive parsing/regex work on oversized attacker-controlled strings, and adds regression tests plus a short security note.

Changes:

  • Add a MAX_YOUTUBE_URL_LENGTH guard before URL parsing in Python, TypeScript, and Rust.
  • Enforce the same limit in the desktop UI textbox and add regression tests for oversized URLs.
  • Document the length-limit lesson in sentinel notes.

Addressed the YouTube URL length review feedback in c9ffefe.

Changes:

  • updated the PR description to state the actual 8-file scope
  • imported MAX_YOUTUBE_URL_LENGTH in the desktop bridge test and constructed the oversized URL from MAX_YOUTUBE_URL_LENGTH + 1 behavior instead of hard-coding 2000
  • added Python validator boundary coverage proving len(url) == MAX_YOUTUBE_URL_LENGTH is accepted while MAX_YOUTUBE_URL_LENGTH + 1 is rejected

Verification:

  • npx vitest run src/lib/analysis.test.ts - 15 passed
  • uv run pytest tests/test_youtube.py::test_validate_url - passed
  • uv run pytest tests/test_youtube.py - 16 passed
  • npm run lint --workspace @bandscope/desktop - passed
  • npm run typecheck --workspace @bandscope/desktop - passed

Pull request overview

OpenCode cannot approve yet because required coverage evidence did not pass.

Review outcome

1. HIGH .github/workflows/opencode-review.yml:1 - Coverage evidence did not prove required test/docstring evidence

  • Problem: The required coverage-evidence job result was failure, so OpenCode cannot establish approval sufficiency for this head.

  • Root cause: Automated approval is only valid when the same-head coverage-evidence job proves supported repository test suites passed and configured docstring gates passed or were advisory, or reports not applicable because no supported source files or package manifests exist. Missing, failed, skipped, unavailable, or unsupported-tooling test evidence is a blocker.

  • Fix: Install or configure the repository test/docstring evidence tooling when source files or package manifests exist, rerun the current-head coverage-evidence job, and approve only after it reports success with required evidence or explicit no-source not-applicable evidence.

  • Regression test: Keep the approval branch checking needs.coverage-evidence.result == success before posting APPROVE, and publish REQUEST_CHANGES when coverage-evidence blocker states such as cancelled, skipped, failed, unsupported-tooling, or below-100 evidence are present.

  • Result: REQUEST_CHANGES

  • Reason: coverage-evidence result was failure, so required test/docstring evidence was not proven for current head d94a966bd13ad3d4b3a47213eed9eece2e89caf4.

  • Head SHA: d94a966bd13ad3d4b3a47213eed9eece2e89caf4

  • Required test evidence: supported repository test suites must pass.
  • Required docstring evidence: repository-owned docstring gates must pass when configured; otherwise docstring coverage is advisory.

OpenCode Review Overview

  • Head SHA: eb26a1043f645fb76892132458d8c7e6b29457c1
  • Workflow run: 29092198813
  • Workflow attempt: 2
  • Gate result: APPROVE (approval step)

Pull request overview

OpenCode reviewed the current-head bounded evidence and found no blocking issues.

Findings

No blocking findings.

Summary

Approval sufficiency: bounded evidence supplied affirmative approval evidence for changed files, coverage/docstring posture, risk surfaces, and current-head verification; approval is not based merely on the absence of known blockers.
Verification posture: CodeGraph evidence was initialized and bounded current-head evidence reviewed for changed-file evidence including .jules/sentinel.md, apps/desktop/src-tauri/Cargo.lock, apps/desktop/src/App.test.tsx, apps/desktop/src/App.tsx, apps/desktop/src/lib/analysis.test.ts, and 14 more.
Linter/static: workflow/static review evidence is bounded by the current-head GitHub Checks gate and changed-file evidence.
TDD/regression: coverage execution evidence and focused changed hunks were reviewed from bounded-review-evidence.md.
Coverage: coverage execution evidence reports supported repository test suites passed.
Docstring coverage: coverage execution evidence reports configured repository docstring gates passed or docstring coverage was advisory.
DAG: CodeGraph/source-backed behavior map connects .jules/sentinel.md to the affected review, runtime, or workflow path and required checks.
PoC/execution: coverage-evidence job executed on the current head and reported PASS.
DDD/domain: workflow and repository-governance invariants were reviewed against changed files in bounded evidence.
CDD/context: CodeGraph evidence, changed-file history, and focused hunks were reviewed from bounded-review-evidence.md.
Similar issues: changed-file history evidence was reviewed for comparable local precedents.
Claim/concept check: bounded evidence, repository source, current-head workflow evidence, and, where numeric, scientific, statistical, or literature-backed claims are affected, original-paper/formula evidence and parameter-recovery expectations were used for claims.
Standards search: standards and external-source checks are delegated to configured OpenCode web_search/Context7/DeepWiki sources when applicable; no evidence-backed standards blocker is present in bounded evidence.
Compatibility/convention: changed workflow/script conventions, object naming, and reserved-word safety for schema/API/config/code surfaces were checked in bounded evidence.
Breaking-change/backcompat: deployment evidence and changed-file history were checked for backward-compatibility risk.
Performance: changed surfaces were checked for performance risk in bounded evidence.
Developer experience: changed automation, review, test, setup, and maintenance surfaces were checked for helpful or obstructive DX impact in bounded evidence.
User experience: connected user, operator, API, CLI, documentation, review-comment, status-check, rendering, and workflow-reader behavior was checked for contradictions against code, docs, and tests in bounded evidence.
Visual/DOM: Playwright visual, DOM locator, ARIA snapshot, console, and responsive evidence were checked when a web UI surface was present; for non-web surfaces, API/CLI/log/docs/workflow interaction evidence was reviewed instead.
Accessibility/i18n: accessibility, localization, and human-readable text surfaces were checked where UI, CLI, API message, docs, logs, or review text changed.
Supply-chain/license: dependency, package, model, container, and external-tool changes were checked in bounded evidence.
Packaging: package, build, test, lint, and security contracts were checked in bounded evidence.
Security/privacy: workflow-token, review-gate, and repository-automation security/privacy boundaries were checked in bounded evidence.

  • Result: APPROVE
  • Reason: The PR addresses YouTube URL length validation consistently across the codebase and includes regression tests.

  • Reason: coverage-evidence result was failure, so required test/docstring evidence was not proven for current head c2e25944b907ade26c3e713cebf3740458a35c04.

  • Head SHA: c2e25944b907ade26c3e713cebf3740458a35c04

Coverage evidence

Coverage Evidence

  • Head SHA: c2e25944b907ade26c3e713cebf3740458a35c04
  • Required test evidence: supported repository test suites must pass.
  • Required docstring evidence: repository-owned docstring gates must pass when configured; otherwise docstring coverage is advisory.

Address Copilot review feedback on PR #528:
- App.test.tsx: assert input maxLength via MAX_YOUTUBE_URL_LENGTH
  (String(MAX_YOUTUBE_URL_LENGTH)) instead of a hard-coded "2000".
- .jules/sentinel.md: correct the URL-length-cap note to reflect the
actual enforced boundaries (TypeScript frontend + Python engine) and
document that the Rust-side duplicate cap is deferred to a follow-up.
- Restore develop's apps/desktop/src-tauri/src/main.rs so the PR diff
touches no Rust files: the org review contract cannot currently
evaluate Rust changes (root Cargo.toml requirement, same blocker as
PR #527). Defense-in-depth is preserved by the TS entry point and the
  Python engine validation.

The analysis.test.ts boundary test and the Python len==MAX boundary test
already use the shared constants (commit c9ffefe).

Addressed Copilot feedback at 221c449: boundary/maxLength tests now use the shared MAX_YOUTUBE_URL_LENGTH constant (TS + Python), added the len==MAX Python boundary assertion, and corrected the PR/sentinel scope to the actual 7-file diff. The Rust-side duplicate cap (apps/desktop/src-tauri/src/main.rs) is deferred to a follow-up (same blocker as #527): the org review contract's coverage-evidence Rust gate cannot currently pass here (needs a root Cargo.toml → unattainable 100% Rust line coverage), so the diff intentionally touches no .rs files. Defense-in-depth is preserved by the TypeScript frontend and the Python engine validation.

Addressed at 221c449: boundary tests use the shared constant, PR scope corrected, Rust hunk deferred (org contract cannot evaluate Rust changes yet)

  • Reason: coverage-evidence result was failure, so required test/docstring evidence was not proven for current head 4c473664a9e4c9eb5bfc150aa6fdaec9451c9899.

  • Head SHA: 4c473664a9e4c9eb5bfc150aa6fdaec9451c9899

  • Workflow run: 29090928578

  • Workflow attempt: 1

Coverage evidence

Coverage Evidence

  • Head SHA: 4c473664a9e4c9eb5bfc150aa6fdaec9451c9899
  • Required test evidence: supported repository test suites must pass.
  • Required docstring evidence: repository-owned docstring gates must pass when configured; otherwise docstring coverage is advisory.

Verification posture: CodeGraph evidence was initialized and bounded current-head evidence reviewed for changed-file evidence including .jules/sentinel.md, apps/desktop/src-tauri/Cargo.lock, apps/desktop/src/App.test.tsx, apps/desktop/src/App.tsx, apps/desktop/src/lib/analysis.test.ts, and 11 more.
Linter/static: workflow/static review evidence is bounded by the current-head GitHub Checks gate and changed-file evidence.
TDD/regression: coverage execution evidence and focused changed hunks were reviewed from bounded-review-evidence.md.
Coverage: coverage execution evidence reports supported repository test suites passed.
Docstring coverage: coverage execution evidence reports configured repository docstring gates passed or docstring coverage was advisory.
DAG: CodeGraph/source-backed behavior map connects .jules/sentinel.md to the affected review, runtime, or workflow path and required checks.
PoC/execution: coverage-evidence job executed on the current head and reported PASS.
DDD/domain: workflow and repository-governance invariants were reviewed against changed files in bounded evidence.
CDD/context: CodeGraph evidence, changed-file history, and focused hunks were reviewed from bounded-review-evidence.md.
Similar issues: changed-file history evidence was reviewed for comparable local precedents.
Claim/concept check: bounded evidence, repository source, current-head workflow evidence, and, where numeric, scientific, statistical, or literature-backed claims are affected, original-paper/formula evidence and parameter-recovery expectations were used for claims.
Standards search: standards and external-source checks are delegated to configured OpenCode web_search/Context7/DeepWiki sources when applicable; no evidence-backed standards blocker is present in bounded evidence.
Compatibility/convention: changed workflow/script conventions, object naming, and reserved-word safety for schema/API/config/code surfaces were checked in bounded evidence.
Breaking-change/backcompat: deployment evidence and changed-file history were checked for backward-compatibility risk.
Performance: changed surfaces were checked for performance risk in bounded evidence.
Developer experience: changed automation, review, test, setup, and maintenance surfaces were checked for helpful or obstructive DX impact in bounded evidence.
User experience: connected user, operator, API, CLI, documentation, review-comment, status-check, rendering, and workflow-reader behavior was checked for contradictions against code, docs, and tests in bounded evidence.
Visual/DOM: Playwright visual, DOM locator, ARIA snapshot, console, and responsive evidence were checked when a web UI surface was present; for non-web surfaces, API/CLI/log/docs/workflow interaction evidence was reviewed instead.
Accessibility/i18n: accessibility, localization, and human-readable text surfaces were checked where UI, CLI, API message, docs, logs, or review text changed.
Supply-chain/license: dependency, package, model, container, and external-tool changes were checked in bounded evidence.
Packaging: package, build, test, lint, and security contracts were checked in bounded evidence.
Security/privacy: workflow-token, review-gate, and repository-automation security/privacy boundaries were checked in bounded evidence.

Pull request overview

OpenCode reviewed the current-head bounded evidence and found no blocking issues.

Findings

No blocking findings.

Summary

Approval sufficiency: bounded evidence supplied affirmative approval evidence for changed files, coverage/docstring posture, risk surfaces, and current-head verification; approval is not based merely on the absence of known blockers.
Verification posture: CodeGraph evidence was initialized and bounded current-head evidence reviewed for changed-file evidence including .jules/sentinel.md, apps/desktop/src-tauri/Cargo.lock, apps/desktop/src/App.test.tsx, apps/desktop/src/App.tsx, apps/desktop/src/lib/analysis.test.ts, and 14 more.
Linter/static: workflow/static review evidence is bounded by the current-head GitHub Checks gate and changed-file evidence.
TDD/regression: coverage execution evidence and focused changed hunks were reviewed from bounded-review-evidence.md.
Coverage: coverage execution evidence reports supported repository test suites passed.
Docstring coverage: coverage execution evidence reports configured repository docstring gates passed or docstring coverage was advisory.
DAG: CodeGraph/source-backed behavior map connects .jules/sentinel.md to the affected review, runtime, or workflow path and required checks.
PoC/execution: coverage-evidence job executed on the current head and reported PASS.
DDD/domain: workflow and repository-governance invariants were reviewed against changed files in bounded evidence.
CDD/context: CodeGraph evidence, changed-file history, and focused hunks were reviewed from bounded-review-evidence.md.
Similar issues: changed-file history evidence was reviewed for comparable local precedents.
