This is a program originally created at Wang Lab Group at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign Materials Research Lab in 2025.

The point of program is to fix the pain points involved in aligning microscope images with .gds files in KLayout.

The goals are to: a) make the process faster b) add more features specific to PW Group and possibly outside labs was well.

The reason PointAlign was originally needed is because after a 2-D material is created in the lab, it often needs to have contacts deposited to measure any interesting condensed matter properties. To fabricate the contacts requires a 2-D Computer Aided Design on KLayout, and to model the contacts in the correct spot requires the image of the 2-D material to be properly aligned with the .gds design file.
