💡 What

Added visible instructions ("Press Space or ↑ to jump") to the Mario game UI and enhanced the score element with aria-live attributes.

🎯 Why

New users often don't immediately know the controls for web games, leading to frustration. Adding visible instructions makes the game intuitive immediately. Furthermore, dynamic updates to the score weren't being announced to screen reader users, making the game less accessible.

📸 Before/After

(See attached screenshot in Playwright output)
Before: Only "Score: 0" was visible without assistive text.
After: "Score: 0" and "Press Space or ↑ to jump" are visibly present.

♿ Accessibility

  • Added aria-live="polite" and aria-atomic="true" to #score so that screen readers announce points automatically as they are earned.
  • Instructional text is fully visible and not hidden, benefiting all users, especially those with cognitive disabilities who benefit from explicit instructions.
