Can anybody help me why i cant seem to pay for vpn LN invoice.

Thanks for reporting this @mmvphil. The issue here is that it's not your own channels that fail, rather it's the remote node 0217890e3aad8d35bc054f43acc00084b25229ecff0ab68debd82883ad65ee8266 reporting all of those failed payment attempts, and since all your routes seem to go through that node, it can't forward the payment.

The node is reporting failcode 4103 which corresponds with a temporary_channel_failure and includes a channel_update. But the channel_updates don't include the disable flag, so my best guess is that they are simply out of capacity to forward outgoing payments.

I closed 0217890e3aad8d35bc054f43acc00084b25229ecff0ab68debd82883ad65ee8266 for now but wonder who i can fund so i can have a reliable outbound route.
Is c-lightning working on a way to kinda 'auto route' around these trouble spots? I'm not sure where to go from here. cheers. pete

As you can see from the output you posted c-lightning indeed attempts to route around these nodes, however it can only work with the channels it has. There is an experimental autopilot, however it should probably not be used as of now, since it will just open channels to well funded nodes and hope that they have capacity on the right end.

I'm afraid currently it's more of a trial and error than anything else. Try connecting to Sleepyark (https://1ml.com/node/02f6725f9c1c40333b67faea92fd211c183050f28df32cac3f9d69685fe9665432) which is a node that we run and has ok capacity to the rest of the network.

Seems like you are just unlucky with the routes. None of the routes that were attempted actually go through sleepyark. You could attempt to increase the retry_for parameter to a higher number:

lightning-cli -k pay bolt11=[invoice] retry_for=300

Replacing [invoice] with the real invoice you get from TorGuard. This'll try for 5 minutes and eliminate all non-working channels while doing so.
