Ah hm, I've forgotten about this one sadly and TBH don't remember the context super well now.

@marcaaron I believe we should just remove persist entirely is that right? Curious, what changed so that this is the case?

I know it's been a while. We can close it for focus if you don't want to dive back in and continue to track the progress in the cleanup issue here (which I just made a plane task). This stuff is pretty tricky and demands some intense focus to make sure we are not screwing things up 😄

For this PR, I don't think anything is passing a data.persist anymore. We used to pass that to tell our API commands that they are "writes" and should be persisted. Since we use API.write() for that now, we don't need the explicit check and everything that should be persisted is getting persisted by default.

Retry-ability also isn't determined by any sort of modifier any more IIRC. Anything that is going into the SequentialQueue should be getting retried by default.

So, basically we can just remove the entire block here:

Mainly we just have to update the tests so they are not breaking on the missing param that we are no longer passing. Any cleanup beyond that might be a bonus, but not expected tbh.
