Possibly replace Polymer web components with Material Components for the Web

paper-* / iron-* components depend on Polymer, which adds quite a bit of bloat to the final bundle. If we could use https://material.io/components/web/ instead, we might shave off a couple (or hundreds) of kbs.

We have to investigate whether https://material.io/components/web/-components can be used in a reusable fashion. Maybe they could even be wrapped (extremely slim) into custom elements?

Let's wait until Google I/O next week with this. They'll likely release more streamlined material components along with Polymer 3.0
