Suggestion to not see Invidious related errors because instances have disabled API access is to disable Fallback to Non-Preferred Backend on Failure in the General Settings and set Local API as your primary API

Regarding Falling back to Invidious API SyntaxError: Unexpected token 'A', "API disabled" is not valid JSON and Legacy formats are not available for this video

I suggest the following to not see Invidious related errors because instances have disabled API access

Disable Fallback to Non-Preferred Backend on Failure in the General Settings and set Local API as your primary API

That error means that the installer doesn't have permission to delete the old FreeTube files. As FreeTube isn't running in your case it can also happen if you installed it as an admin before and are now trying to install it as your user.

I can't do much without more details though

I know, sorry for the lack of diagnostic info - I tried launching from terminal with some verbosity but got nothing. As it happens a few restarts of the system made it go away. Thanks for the quick response though, I appreciate the community here. All good now.
