Public catalog footprints do not show coverage for AOI (data search returns empty)

When searching for data over our AOI, the public catalog footprint/coverage layer appears not to cover the AOI, so the search returns no results. The AOI is visible on the map (small polygon / red dot), but the displayed public data footprints (tiles/boxes) do not intersect it, making it unclear whether there is truly no data or whether the catalog/footprints/query is incomplete or too strict
