[BUG] Kimi, MiniMax, and Qwen models fail when accessed through Bedrock

Kimi, MiniMax, and Qwen models fail when accessed through Amazon Bedrock

Context (who is affected and when)

If you enter these as custom models (since they are not available from the model picker), they fail. Roo prints an error message in which it suggests you enable cross-region inference. However, this does not help.

Reproduction steps

1. Configure any of these models with the Bedrock provider
2. Try to send a message in any Roo mode

Roo receives a successful response from Bedrock

Problem Analysis

The issue is that Kimi, MiniMax, and Qwen models fail when accessed through Amazon Bedrock as custom models. These models are not currently included in the bedrockModels configuration in packages/types/src/providers/bedrock.ts.

Proposed Solution

Add support for these models by including them in the Bedrock models configuration with appropriate settings:

1. Add model definitions to packages/types/src/providers/bedrock.ts:

   • minimax.minimax-m2: MiniMax M2 model
   • moonshot.kimi-k2-thinking: Kimi K2 Thinking model
   • qwen.qwen3-next-80b-a3b: Qwen3 Next 80B model
   • qwen.qwen3-coder-480b-a35b-v1:0: Qwen3 Coder 480B model

2. Configure model properties based on their capabilities:

   • Set appropriate maxTokens and contextWindow values
   • Enable supportsNativeTools for tool calling support
   • Configure pricing information if available
   • Add descriptive text for each model

3. Update the guessModelInfoFromId method in src/api/providers/bedrock.ts to handle these model patterns as a fallback for unknown models

This approach will:

• Allow these models to be used as custom models through Bedrock
• Provide proper configuration for token limits and context windows
• Enable native tool support where applicable

Thanks for the approval and the updated configuration @jbearak! I see you've already tested the fix with updated token limits for the models. I'll implement this change now using the exact configuration you provided.

I've implemented the fix using the exact configuration you provided. Opened PR #9905 with my attempt at addressing this issue.

The changes add support for all four models:

• moonshot.kimi-k2-thinking (32K max tokens, 256K context)
• minimax.minimax-m2 (16K max tokens, 230K context)
• qwen.qwen3-next-80b-a3b (8K max tokens, 262K context)
• qwen.qwen3-coder-480b-a35b-v1:0 (8K max tokens, 262K context)

All tests are passing and the build is successful. Feedback welcome!

@roomote Add preserveReasoning: true, to the configurations for moonshot.kimi-k2-thinking and minimax.minimax-m2. You should make this change for two reasons. First, they are reasoning models. Second, for ``moonshot.kimi-k2-thinking`, without this addition, Roo will not recognize tasks as having completed successfully. Kimi will

(i) respond with a reasoning trace like:

</attempt_completion>

and then Roo will display Retry and Start New Task.

(ii) print tool calls in reasoning traces, e.g., `<|tool_calls_section_begin|> <|tool_call_begin|> functions.read_file:0 <|tool_call_argument_begin|> {"args": {"file": {"path": "file.md"}}} <|tool_call_end|> <|tool_calls_section_end|>

After adding preserveReasoning: true,, the task concludes and Roo prints Task Completed in green.

I've seen your comment about adding preserveReasoning: true to the Kimi and MiniMax models. This makes sense since they are reasoning models that output thinking traces. I'll explore the codebase and implement this fix to ensure Roo properly recognizes task completion for these models. I'll open a PR to share progress.
