can we implement FastX or similar for better GUI performance when rendering 3D datasets?

I just had a quick look at fastx, it might be possible.
From their website: "For users who are already logged in to the system, they can generate a token from the command line by using the link command located in /usr/lib/fastx2/tools/link The link command returns a json object with a result token that can then be passed to the web api" --> this way, once an user is inside IPP, he/she does not need to login one more time. It would be very ugly doing that.

Also, the current way it is installed, you need to be inside VPN to connect.

With better virtual desktop experience, one way we can improve on existing CVL setup is to use RDP instead of VNC. I had a play with it when working with CoESRA. But it might take time to do all that inside Wiener. Also, no guarantee it will improve with 3D rendering, maybe fastx has other improvement in terms of 3D rendering as well.

Definitely, it really depends on how open fastX is, and how open Irek is willing to make it :).
Otherwise, we can consider other options, like RDP.
