It would be useful for downstream mapping consumers if the mapping process also surfaced HGNC symbols where possible for the regions to which we mapped transcripts.
It seems to me that the simplest way to do this would be that when we match against an existing MANE transcript (since these seem to all have HGNC info with them), we retain the HGNC symbol and surface it in the post mapped metadata object we generate at the end. This won't cover all cases, namely cases where we cannot find an appropriate MANE transcript or in cases with accession based score sets where we may not have been provided with one.
