I think it would speed up the "onboarding" for everyone who wants to help out, and it would be a very important community resource.

At the very minimum it should contain build instructions (with needed dependencies) for Debian, Arch and Fedora. This should realistically cover 90% of people. Instructions for the BSDs and OpenIndiana are needed too.

According to this link on X.org, it appears that this repo has not been cloned into this GitHub organization.

+1 for documentation, -1 for github wiki.

some in-tree short and sweet raw text documentation goes a long way to help newbies (like me).

but since source tree is already this frightening, readme should handhold the reader to the doc section.

Yes, the permissions need to be adjusted since the Home · X11Libre/xserver Wiki is only visible for members of the XLibre organization right now.

Don't see anything about visibility. But just removed some write restrictions, so I guess that all org members should have write access now.

And editable without even having to login to Github. Let's see how that works. If there is vandalism, we have to find a way to restrict access to it (again).

I was tricked by Github: There is an edit button for anonymous users but after clicking it you are required to login. Well.
