Dataform Compile Failure — “Unable to find valid caller file” Error

Hi,

We are currently encountering a Dataform compile failure in CI with the following error appearing across many unrelated .sqlx files:

Error: Unable to find valid caller file; please report this issue.

This is followed by:

Compiled 0 action(s).

and the compile step fails with:

dataform compile --timeout=10m

The issue does not appear model-specific, as it occurs across multiple unrelated domains/files.

I did some investigation and found what appears to be a related Dataform issue/fix:

I was encountering the same issue.

I was experiencing this on Github Actions using Ubuntu with: npm install -g @dataform/cli but couldn't emulate this on local.

I'm wondering if this is due to in the latest release 3.0.57, the vm2 sandbox library was bumped. Maybe the new vm2 version is stripping file paths?

I fixed this by making sure the dataformCoreVersion is up-to-date in my workflow_settings.yaml:
dataformCoreVersion: 3.0.57

Alternatively you could fix a previous version, i.e. npm install -g @dataform/cli@3.0.56

Same problem - seems to be limited to the latest @dataform/cli npm package
we reverted to 3.0.56 for cli
