Cannot map controllers

I activate an option to configure, press controller buttons and nothing is registered.

Is anything else needed?

I totally get it, bindings can be a bit tricky. For me, they only work when I press the right mouse button with the gamepad button. But when I bind them, they work like a dream!

I'm only now seeing the same thing "USAGE"
To change a keybind left click on it's blue box, press the desired key/keys and then right click on the box to confirm.
