Twemoji "keycap asterisk" emoji *️⃣ doesn't work on Firefox

The emoji is shown in the name of the slash commands pane:

Firefox 69:

Chrome 77:

Both browsers are loading the COLR variant of Twemoji. Forcing the Apple Color Emoji font fixes the appearance of the emoji in Firefox.

this is the first issue from matrix-org/matrix-react-sdk#2995 (comment) fwiw. we should probably bugify all of those.

This issue has morphed, we now just show whatever fallback font e.g Apple Color Emoji

We likely have a broken glyph in our COLR build of Twemoji

Peculiarly though Safari renders it correctly through the COLR font.
