Card Carousel with Controls/Indicators

Context

SphinxDesign supports Card Carousels, however, ist seems having a horizontal scroll bar underneeth is the only option. Do you see any chance to support Controls or Indicators and without the scroll bar?

I was looking for a feature for something like "stacked cards".

I found a Sphinx extension called sphinx-carousel:

But unfortunately, this project has been archived and is no longer maintained.

I was wondering whether the sphinx-design team could consider referencing its design to improve the card-carousel directive? Or perhaps even take over maintenance of this sphinx-carousel project?
