The argparse structure needs redoing

Right now the automatically generated help isn't very good, and the argument structure makes some operations and modifications difficult, so it needs redoing.

@denys-duchier : Did you say you were working on something related to this? I ask because I've been working on target architecture support, and it's given me an idea of what changes I'd like to make here. If you're working on it, do you have a plan or WIP?

oh yes, I have already done 1 prototype. at the moment, I am plugging in subcommands as follows:

class foo_bar(SubCommand):
    # subcommand foo-bar
    def cli(self):
        # add arguments here
    def run(self, args):
        # do the job here

that works very nicely, but I am redoing a 2nd prototype because I wasn't happy with the highlighting support, and some other things can be simplified. if you can wait until next week, I'll have something to let you play with.

I'm interested to see. Is subclassing SubCommand like this a normal way to do it (it seems different to the simple example on the argparse page)?
