Problem or use case

Dark mode is hard on my eyes across the whole app. On my IPS panel it blooms badly, including the grayer surfaces, and long sessions feel fatiguing.

Light mode is mostly better, but it still has rough spots and does not feel cohesive. Surfaces, contrast, and hierarchy do not always read as one system.

This is my main first impression on nightly. It may not be colors alone. Typography, spacing, or how surfaces sit against each other could be part of it.

Version: 0.0.29-nightly.20260722.878 (9a0a07167f06)

Proposed solution

A pass on both default themes for comfort and cohesion across the full UI. Soften dark mode extremes, clean up the remaining light mode rough edges, and check type, spacing.

Why this matters

Themes are the first thing you live in. If dark is painful and light feels unfinished, the app is harder to use than it should be.

Smallest useful scope

Improve the default light and dark themes on main chrome and content surfaces.

Alternatives considered

I lean on light mode when I can. It helps, but it still does not feel settled.

Risks or tradeoffs

Taste varies. Prefer small default-theme fixes over a big theme-picker project unless that is already planned.
