🛡️ Vault-Session - Move browser logins between devices securely

Vault-Session helps you move your browser information between different computers and mobile devices. It saves your cookies and login data into an encrypted file. You can then move this file to another browser or a new computer. The software uses AES-256-GCM encryption to keep your data private. This ensures only you can access your saved sessions.

🔑 What this software does

Managing multiple browser profiles takes time. You often need to log in to the same websites on different machines. Vault-Session simplifies this task. It exports your current browser session into a secure package. You import this package into another browser to restore your logins immediately. You avoid the need to type passwords or complete two-factor authentication steps again.

The software works with Chrome, Firefox, and Brave. It stores data locally on your machine. No servers keep your information during the process. You hold the keys to your data.

🚀 Getting started

You need a supported web browser and a Windows 10 or 11 computer to use this tool. Ensure you have the latest version of your browser installed.

  1. Visit the official releases page to find the latest version.
  2. Look for the file ending in .zip or .exe under the Assets section.
  3. Choose the file named for the current version and download it to your computer.
  4. Open the folder where you saved the file.
  5. If you downloaded a .zip file, right-click it and choose Extract All.
  6. Run the installer or the application file to begin.

🛠️ How to export your session

Follow these steps to create your first encrypted backup file.

  1. Open your browser and click the Vault-Session icon in your toolbar.
  2. Select the Export option from the menu.
  3. Type a strong password when prompted. This password protects the file you are about to create.
  4. Click the Save button.
  5. Select a location on your computer to store the file.
  6. The software saves the encrypted session file to your chosen folder.
  7. You now possess a portable file containing your browser logins.

📥 How to import your session

Move your sessions to a new browser or machine with these steps.

  1. Install the Vault-Session extension on your target browser.
  2. Open the extension from your toolbar.
  3. Select the Import option.
  4. Locate the encrypted file you created previously.
  5. Enter the password you set during the export phase.
  6. Click the Import button to restore your session.
  7. Refresh your browser tabs to see your active logins.

🔒 Security and privacy

Privacy remains the focus of this project. The software uses industry-standard encryption to scramble your session data. Even if someone steals the file, they cannot read your cookies or login information without your password. The extension does not track your activity. It does not send data to external websites. Your information stays on your device at all times.

💻 System requirements

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11
  • Chrome, Firefox, or Brave browser
  • At least 50 MB of free disk space
  • An active internet connection for the initial setup

❓ Frequently asked questions

Is this tool free? Yes, this software is open-source and free for everyone to use.

Where do my files go? You control where you save the exported files. Store them on a secure hard drive or a private cloud folder that you own.

Can I use this on a public computer? Avoid using this tool on shared or public computers. If you must use it, ensure you delete the exported file immediately after you finish.

What happens if I forget my password? The encryption process makes the data impossible to recover without the password. Write your password down and keep it in a safe place. We cannot reset your password for you.

Does this work between different browsers? Yes. You can export a session from Chrome and import it into Firefox. The encryption standard allows for cross-browser compatibility.

📋 Troubleshooting

If you encounter errors, check these common items:

  • Check your password. It must match the one used during export.
  • Verify that both the source and target browsers have the extension enabled.
  • Ensure your internet connection stays stable during the export or import process.
  • Restart your browser if the extension does not appear in the toolbar after installation.
  • Check that you are using the most recent version from the download page.
