[Feature Request] Add OpenCode support - from a team spending ~$20k/day on API #344

Summary

We're a development team spending approximately $20,000 USD per day on AI coding API usage. After extensive testing across all major CLI tools, we'd like to request official support for OpenCode (https://github.com/anomalyco/opencode).

Why OpenCode?

We've battle-tested every major AI coding CLI tool in production:

Tool Our Assessment
Claude Code Good, but context management is limited
Codex (Aider) Decent
OpenCode Best-in-class context management

What makes OpenCode superior for heavy API users:

  1. Near-infinite context handling - OpenCode's context compression doesn't lose critical information. This is the killer feature for teams with high API spend.
  2. LSP-enabled - Automatically loads the right language servers for the LLM
  3. Multi-session support - Run multiple agents in parallel on the same project
  4. 75+ LLM provider support - Works with Claude, GPT, Gemini, and more
  5. Fully open source (52k+ stars) - Active community, MIT licensed
  6. Client/server architecture - Already designed for remote control scenarios

For teams like ours with significant API spend, context management is everything. Poor compression = wasted tokens = wasted money. OpenCode is the only CLI tool that handles this properly at scale.

The Ask

Add OpenCode as a third supported backend alongside Claude Code and Codex:

happy # Claude Code (existing)
happy codex # Codex (existing)
happy opencode # OpenCode (requested)

Why This Benefits Happy

  1. Massive user base - OpenCode has 52k+ GitHub stars and growing rapidly
  2. Enterprise users - Teams with high API spend (like us) need the best context management
  3. Architecture fit - OpenCode already has a client/server architecture, making integration natural
  4. Open source alignment - Both Happy and OpenCode are MIT licensed

Our Commitment

  • We're willing to test beta implementations extensively
  • Happy to provide feedback and bug reports from real production usage (~$20k/day API spend gives us extensive test coverage)
  • Can potentially contribute to the implementation if needed

References

Note: The old opencode-ai/opencode repo has been archived. The active project is now at anomalyco/opencode.

Thank you for considering this. Happy Coder is an excellent tool - adding OpenCode support would make it the definitive mobile companion for serious AI-assisted development teams.
