Running devtools::test() locally several vdiffr::expect_doppelganger tests fail

When running devtools::test() locally, several tests fail, all from vdiffr::expect_doppelganger().

Failing lines:

• test-mcmc-nuts.R: 100, 103, 112, 115, 124, 127, 139
• test-mcmc-scatter-and-parcoord.R: 444, 452, 460, 468

Can these snapshots be safely updated, or is further investigation needed?

Environment:

• R version: 4.5.2
• ggplot2 version: 4.0.1
• OS: Linux Mint 22.2

Thanks for reporting this. This is very strange. I just checked and these also fail for me when running devtools::test() locally. However they are passing on GitHub Actions and they also pass locally for me when I use the "test" button in RStudio instead of manually running devtools::test(). I haven't had a chance to investigate more than that yet.

Did some more digging and here is what I found:

Seems to be the axes that are slightly differently rendered depending on the available plot window size? I get slightly different axes for the scatterplots in the following cases:

• Through devtools::test() in RStudio

• Through the test button in RStudio

• Through devtools::test() in R

Uploaded the images output of mcmc-pairs-default (the current, which is from the test button in RStudio) and the image you get from devtools::test() in RStudio below.

Yes, they are different. Here is the content of lines 31-35 of the test button svg file:

I ran into similar issues while working on the new mcmc_dots function. After re-installing testthat, I managed to run tests locally without these errors. I am not sure if this was the actual solution, though (I tried to re-install couple of other things in the process).
