those verbose messages which are related to the search to `.select()` and those verbose messages which are related to the performance evaluation to `perf_eval()`. This makes it possible to rely on `get_refdist()` (or `get_p_clust()`) output to infer whether clustering or thinning has been used (this is safer than `!is.null(nclusters)`, for example)
