Replace `beforeValidate` with "before save" and `afterCreate` with "after save" hooks. Disable the legacy explorer routes in the app exported by workspace.

/to @raymondfeng @ritch please review. I'd like to get this landed by EOW, at most on Monday, because I am running a workshop on Tuesday next week and the deprecation warnings printed by
slc loopbackare rather ugly.
