This release is the last one directly compiled by Sphinx using only the reStructuredText format. The last update for this release was committed on Mar 23, 2021. Starting in 2022, I am gradually rewriting the content and the doc structure using the Jupyter Book-based format (a combination of reStructuredText, MyST markdown, Jupyter Notebooks, and Sphinx).

Version 1.2 will also be the last one that includes tutorials for the GMT classical syntax (GMT 5 and earlier). However, in each chapter, I plan to provide the final scripts using the classical syntax, the modern syntax (GMT 6), and PyGMT.

V1.2 has 13 completed chapters and 3 more chapters that are under construction:

  1. GMT / PyGMT Introduction and Installation
  2. Software and Packages
  3. Basic Concepts and Terms
  4. Make Your First Map
  5. Color the Topography
  6. Pen and Painting
  7. Scatter Plot
  8. Visualize Raster Data Using a Colormap
  9. Plot Vector Data
  10. Design Map Layout

  12. Contours and Profiles
  13. Add Map Elements (under construction)
  14. Edit CPT and Colorbar
  15. 3D Map (under construction)
  16. Raster Calculator (under construction)

Three other pages provide readers with relevant references and a quick overview.
