**Bug** We are looking into localization, and there are many string resources that are no longer referenced anywhere. **fix** Remove these strings. Finding unreferenced strings would be a lot easier if we moved to autogenerated resource files as this pr originally proposed:

We are looking into localization, and there are many string resources in our resx files that are no longer referenced anywhere.
fix
Remove these strings.
Finding unreferenced strings would be a lot easier if we moved to autogenerated resources, as #729 proposed.
