In the future, I'd advocate for using the PNG format for all images, rather than GIF. It results in smaller file sizes, truer colors, and it's an open format whereas there's some ambiguity over just how "open" GIF is. However, it's not a big deal, and certainly shouldn't block this PR from going in.

agreed. the GIFs were taken from edx101 and in interest of time kept as
is. putting in a story to convert shortly.
