@nedbat this is the beginning of this PR. There's still lots of failing tests. My latest commit has a bunch of failures related to the strings now being Mock objects, not strings - haven't yet dug into how to fix this, but if you know how that'd save me some work. See: https://gist.github.com/sarina/54ee1cf04a392718c0a5; _ = self.system.service(self, "i18n").ugettext being a Mock object, thus _("string") is not a string |

Since we're fixing lots of things here, it's better in a multi-line collection like this to use a trailing comma even on the last item.
Also pep8, pylint, and style fixes
