Backport #28313
will be useful when running app tests on top of stable10 code

It is already in master - see discussion in #28313 - so what to do?
This can be easily closed, but the code in master will "appear" in 10.1 anyway unless something is done.

It was merged in master because @PVince81 gave it the 👍
So I guess some other solution has to be discussed.
Closing this, because actually this is just a "routine" backport of existing code in master. The problem would be better discussed in the original PR #28313
